Hiking as a Hobby

There are plenty of people who just can’t stand lying around. They simply have to do something, engage in some kind of activity. When they can no longer work, they have a hobby that at least resembles it. Some are so active that they even spend their vacations actively. They look forward to heading out to the mountains, for example, or somewhere else, and to everything they’ll explore and see there. Some write out a little itinerary where they note down what they want to see, when and where they’ll be at such-and-such a time, and then stick to it. When things don’t go exactly according to their plan, they get visibly nervous and start chewing on the tips of their trekking poles. Maybe it’s better to spend your free time walking for your health, but you shouldn’t overdo it. After all, rushing blindly here and there, sticking to some schedule—that’s more of a race than hiking.

The best thing is to just wander through the forests and the beauty of our country. Here and there, back and forth, without rushing. There’s no need to hurry. Half an hour here, half an hour there. We’re on vacation, after all, so it doesn’t matter at all when we arrive at a place we wanted to go. It’s better to sit down on a tree stump in peace and observe. Maybe just gaze down into the valley. And while you’re at it, you can easily snack on some protein. WARNING: Take your wrappers, bags, and everything else you bring with you back home with you. Don’t be like the rest of the cattle who throw everything left over from their snacks or drinks all over the place.

And ladies, why not carry a small bag for your, um, tissues and napkins? The rest of us really don’t want to see where you’ve relieved yourselves. Anyway, I believe that one day there will be micro-cameras in the forest, and anyone who litters there will get such a beating they won’t be able to sit down for three weeks. Plus a huge fine and cleaning up the forest. Then maybe there’ll finally be peace and order. So if you’re planning a hike, all that’s left is to wish you nice weather and sturdy shoes. Watch out for slippery rocks, and try to be as quiet as possible in the woods. I hope you have a wonderful time.
